Gaelic Kern Boot

All versions of the boots I make are inspired by and based on the boot found in the Dublin excavations at Wood Quay in Dublin in the early 70's. You can see pics of the Brian Boru era boot in the About section. I've taken the artifact as the basis for designing modern wearable Gaelic Boots - The Brian Boru Boot and the Gaelic Kern Boot as shown below.

Gaelic Kern Boot, Type 1

A new Gaelic Kern Boot in brown 2.2mm softy veg tan leather with a stitchdown style, triple spiral lacing hooks, cork layer in the footbed, full wraparound heel cup and full stud sole unit with heel. This is a prototype design currently in field testing since Beltine 2021 - more feedback will help to finalise the design... Pics below are of a size 9.

Gaelic Kern Boot, type 2

A second version of the Gaelic Kern Boot in black 2.2mm softy veg tan leather with a stitchdown style, triple spiral lacing hooks, cork layer in the footbed, full heel wraparound cup and lightweight Vibram micro lug sole unit. This is a prototype design currently in field testing since Samhradh 2021 by me. I really like this version - it is very comfortable as it was made by me for my measured feet, it is cosy as it has a cork layer in the foot bed and it is really light as it has the full micro sole with heel.

Gaelic Kern Boot, type 3

A third version of the Gaelic Kern Boot in black 2.2mm softy veg tan leather with a stitchdown style, standard lacing holes with eyelets, cork layer in the footbed, full heel wraparound cup and Vibram lug sole unit. This is a prototype design not in field testing yet. This version is rugged and a bit heavier than type 2 above and it has a cork layer in the foot bed. This prototype has a slight twist in the vamp that causes the toe to look off a bit but it is still fully functional - field testing report will be sharded here...
