Archery Kit and Medieval Kit are not the same but in some ways they are related... no archers these days wear heavy duty greeves or van bracers with 2mm steel plates inside them... unless they are going to battle after all arrows have been loosed... custom arm guards are needed for archery and a selection of engraved bow arm protection is displayed below. Only veg tan leather is used and if looked after with conditioner this selection of kit will last for many long years. Email me at [email protected] to discuss your needs.
Archery Harness Autumn 2021
An all-in-one archery harness in black veg tan leather and brass fittings. Multi adjustable belt with click buckle, belt keepers and Sam Browne stud security. This can fit you in your summer tee shirt or in your winter sheepskin. Adjustable shoulder straps fitted to adjustable belt loops and setting secured with a Sam Browne stud. Right front strap has brass whistle pocket sewn onto it - this unique whistle type also has an essential bottle opener built in for all those who like a drink but have an archery problem (Queen Meave archery club joke).
Top left - Rear of shoulder straps to center strap fitted to belt loop on the main belt. A 1" or 25mm wide strap onto 1.8" or 45mm belly belt. Two hanging D loops on the shoulder straps and on the belly belt for the black army style back bag which has quick release lobster clasps. These two straps are adjustable to let the bag be positioned as required.
Top Right - Black leather belt bag big enough for your mobile phone, keys wallet and of course the emergency 'canteen'. Also visible is the arm bracer with thumb loop and thumb guard - (thanks Michael Hamley)
Middle right - Model Paul shows a 50lb bow at full draw as he aims at a 3D target in the Rath. Paul is a coach with Castlerea Archery Club which is a full member of SIFA. The chest guard is secured in three places, each of which is adjustable with its Sam Brown stud. The chest guard is secured to the right side strap with a QD lobster clasp.
Lower right - the leather quiver can easily accomodate up to 10 arrows, if you need more than 10 arrows per shoot then you should have a chat with a coach... Arrow tips are kept in the quiver by 8.5mm thick leather stop plate. The quiver is mounted off the main belt and can be moved back and foward by sliding the loops while holding the main belt itself. The height and angle of the quiver is adjustable and it can face forward or to the rear and it can also be fitted on the left or right side of the body.
Lower left - in this shot you can see the brass QD lobster clasp fitting / attaching the adjustable chest guard to the right strap D ring just under the whistle pocket, this joiner strap is easily adjusted by relocating its Sam Brown stud. The special whistle is an interference fit in its leather pocket and it will not fall out, a large key ring is fitted to it to facilitate quick pulling for those moments when a possible safety breach is in progress and of course the whistle will also open capped bottles...
Center - Model Paul showing how it all fits - everything on the main belt can be re-positioned easily, the chest guard can be put exactly where you want it and the two shoulder straps put the main belt exactly where you want it to be. The quiver can be high or low, on the left or right hip and face forward or to the rear. The one piece knife sheath moves freely and can be brought to the hip or the center. This keeps a knife that is an interference fit in its leather sheath - the knife has a rounded tip to make arrow removal from the wood / tree easier (thanks Harald from Flybow Traditional Archery for that tip...)
I will make some changes to the production Archery Harness but at this stage I can say that the development work is almost complete. It will be available for left or right hand archers and made to measure in either saddle tan or black leather. Because it is bespoke kit = you'll need to get measured and then fitted but this will also allow customisation and engraving of your club logo if desired on the chest guard etc or Celtic Knotwork hand engraved everywhere...
My thanks to coach Paul for his modelling skills and to coach Niamh for taking the pictures. In the images that follow you can see Paul with the Archery Harness on over just his tee shirt and then also the same Archery Harness (after simple adjusting) on over his camo jacket and high vis vest. He also changed the direction and angle of the quiver.
Only the best high grade full crust Italian 2.2mm veg tan leather was used to make the Archery Harness above. It has all been hand stitched with 1mm thick waxed nylon thread. An original design by Con Connor (also an archer) who cut, shaped and sowed it entirely here at celticshoes.ie in north Roscommon, Ireland. Prices start from €450 for the kit displayed above (no knife, no bow, no arrows, no drinks container either). Contact Con at [email protected]
